American Born Chinese turned out to be an insightful lifelong lesson that was well-written. I was a little confused about halfway through, but soon connected the stories and they all came together at the end. I think this book would actually really appeal to teens, and not just those who enjoy Manga. The voice authenticy is fairly believable. Because the novel is written like a comic book, one can get a good idea of what characters are not only saying, but thinking and feeling. There are various developmental markers, which become one essential lesson in the end. A great way to introduce this book to teens may be to do a booktalk, encouraging the comic book feel and shortness for those who might not enjoy reading. I think this is a great book for teens, especially boys, because the way it is written and illustrated. American Born Chinese taught me to by myself, which is a lesson that we all need to be reminded of every now and again. I highly recommend this novel--it's something fresh and different! 4Q4PM
