What a wild book. I loved the new ideas, fast-paced adventure, developed characters. Also, it had really neat, cinematic environments. Like going from Tron to Waterworld!
Philippa Gregory became one of my favorite authors when I read one of her early novels from the Wildacre Trilogy entitled Meridon. The Wise Woman is a brilliantly rendered novels about one of my favorite historical subjects: witches, healers, herbalists. Gregory is very popular currently for her Boelyn series, which are excellent as well, but don't miss some of her earlier works. She even wrote a sort of chick-lit novel Politically Correct. Of course she can't avoid references to literature (DH Lawrence) & of course feminism/politics, but it is a smart love story about a professional woman who attempts to plan her life out & finally realizes (with the help of a quirkish crone) that the love of her life is right in her own back yard.
