Despite the title, there was nothing predictable about this book. Starting with a school shooting, the book moves quickly. From then on, especially at the beginning of each chapter, we find out more about the PROFILE test. Daphne, the main character of the book, knows that her mother is somehow involved, and questions the accuracy of the test results and everyone else's opinions, even her own. After all, the test is intended to predict who would commit crimes, become antisocial, and so on. Daphne grows to love Jesse, a Predicted, who also happens to be the one who protected her on the day of the school shooting. Their relationship is sweet and develops realistically, but I feel that, at some point in the novel, that started to overshadow the sci-fi elements I loved so much in the novel. Daphne is certainly a strong, independent girl, but the book seemed to focus on a few accidents (all of which are connected to a Predicted). Nevertheless, from the first scene of the novel, Jesse has been saving Daphne (even at the end of the book). On top of all that, she "befriends" the popular crowd (a rather inconsiderate bunch). Still, even though I did not agree with some of Daphne's decision, I found myself intrigued with the other aspects of her life. It didn't take much thought to determine that someone was after her, and that is what kept me turning the pages: the suspense, PROFILE. This is an entertaining read that outlines an interesting idea and premise. The drama and suspense are almost tangible - PROFILE is portrayed with alarming clarity.
