I listened to this awhile ago so this will be a brief review. I have a hard time with audio books. I'm more visual. Still this one was easy to follow. A tragedy happens in the beginning to change the circumstances of Renee's life. She moves from the West coast to the East coast, from a warm caring family to a cold, distant grandfather and to a boarding school where weird things happen. And she falls for Dante. But all is not what it seems at Gottfried Academy. Definitely not and people are rumored to be missing or buried and dug up and killed. And Dante is strange. Christmas is tough for Renee as she is very alone. But towards the end of the year, things come to a head and the book is ending as well. The ending is what had me confused. I felt I needed to read it to understand what had just happened, but people that read it didn't understand the ending anymore than I had. So I'm hoping for clarity in the next book. The narration was fine. It doesn't stand out either one way or the other. Sorry I'm not much help there. But it didn't annoy me. Do I recommend this book? Yes, I thought it was good. The mystery in it was very good and Renee is a very strong character considering everything she's been through. Even not considering it. She is smart and figures things out before she is told. Then makes a conscious decision on her own to do something for herself. May not be the choice I'd make, but might have been. I'm definitely excited about the next book!

Oh my, talk about being 'dark'. The first of the Temperance Brennan series, written almost 20 years ago. Makes the early Cornwells seem like a day at the park.
