I am halfway through this book by an English writer who grew up in Australia. I must say I am not yet convinced. I believe the book was short listed for a Booker prize and I do see an incredible conviction of voice and an astutely (darkly) painted world, but am not all that compelled by the subject matter or take on life. It is about a rather strange Irish boy who is obsessed with lying...the lies people tell around him, the lies his world is constructed on. I will press on and see if it opens up any.
