Took me over a month to complete the collection, but it was totally worth it. Each tale was equally as enthralling as the previous making it very hard to put down between chapters. Doyle's masterful writing could hold its own against any high caliber writers of today, but when you consider the time period in which the stories were written (A Study in Scarlet being published in 1887), it's even more amazing.

I really wish I could give this book three and a half stars because I absolutely loved the last few chapters and am still in awe over Lauren Oliver's beautiful writing style. As this is an impossibility, I decided on three stars simply because I wasn't wowed by the novel's protagonist, Lena or her love interest, Alex until the near end of the novel. Both these young people live in a very near dystopian future in which love is looked upon as a disease. The emotion is actually so feared that all young people go through a "procedure" during which the ability to feel love is removed from their brains. Lena has always looked forward to this procedure as various personal experiences have lead her to sincerely believe that an absence of love is the best way to live one's life. She continues to believe this affirmation until she meets Alex just a few months before her procedure. While Delirium has a very interesting premise, I sometimes felt as though Oliver could have moved the action just a tad more quickly. Two different plot twists in the last quarter of the novel, though, quelled this criticism. I also thoroughly enjoyed the supporting characters Grace and Hana and hope to see more of them in the second installment of the series.
