I really, really enjoyed this book! I'd give it four and half stars if I could! It is written in SUCH a charming way. The story is so unique (to anything I've ever read, anyway) and I had no idea where it was going most of the time. That isn't usually the case with children's literature... I think this could be a great book for boys or girls in the middle grades, Bryant is reading something right now but he's hoping to pick it up soon. It did end a bit abruptly, but I really wouldn't say it changed how I felt about the book (and I already had Book 2 from the library). This would be a GREAT book to read aloud to your kids! You'll all enjoy it!
