I loved this when I read it the first time, with a lot of help from Mrs. Howland, my 8th grade teacher. I felt grown up reading my first Shakespeare play. I enjoyed interpreting all the descriptive language. I loved the romance in it. I can be a sucker for a good romance, so what better than Romeo and Juliet, right? I think this is a must read or see for everyone because of how often it is alluded to in culture. I might attempt teaching it in 2008, but am not sure because I don't want to have do all the Elizabethan and Shakespeare culture that goes with it for background knowledge. This is one of the books I read in that my students would say is hard and shut down. Like other classics, I believe that I was used to reading being slow with lots of words I didn't know, so this wasn't really any different for me.
