I might give this one 3.5 stars. I'm not usually into mysteries/crime fiction, but I read Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer when I heard it was coming out as a movie. I really enjoyed that book so I decided to give the second Mickey Haller book a read...I was not disappointed. I read this book in one weekend. Again, it was one of those stories that kept you up at night reading because you just can't put it down because you want to find out what happens next. Connelly is good at drawing you into the story and keeping you guessing without giving too much away. I'm not sure if I like Harry Bosch too much though--I might just stick to Haller's stories for now. But, regardless, Connelly has definitely made a fan out of me! I think it's great how he's turned someone whom the general public immediately dislikes--a defense attorney--into a likeable character you can't help but root for. That takes some talent! And you can tell Connelly knows what he's talking about (or at least he seems like he does)--I feel like I'm learning something about the judicial system each time I read one of his novels. I was interested to find out Connelly used to be a journalist; I think it shows in his style.
I love Emma!! This is a great book that was made into an even better movie!!
This is one of my favourite novels. To those who don't enjoy lots of pages about furniture, windows, streets etc. I will recommend reading an abridged version.
The Diamond Age explores the role of technology and personal relationships in child development, its deeper and darker themes also probe the relative values and shortcomings in communication between cultures.
Required reading in some intro college level (or high school lit) classes. As it should be. Clever.
I couldn't get into this book so stopped about halfway through.
