Kind of hokey to begin but I was hooked by the end.
I don't even give a crap about baseball.
I loved this story because I could identify easily with each character. They all have their flaws, but the author also shows how they justify these by disguising them as love or necessary to culture. I like how there is a theme of selfishness in each of them. All of the characters have their own end they want to acheive and it's very interesting to see how they work towards it in regards to the other characters. The ending of this story was what really sold me. While the ending isn't too surprising because of the foreshadowing throughout the book, it's presented in a unique way. When you finish you can look back at the entire story in a different light. Lisa See brilliantly presents a story where you feel so confident you know the characters and the situations, but at the end shows that you are as blind as the characters. Very touching and emotional. I found it to be an excellent story.
