I loved this book! It was a wonderful, heart rendering story. It's all really about Christian and I love his character. The author has indeed done an amazing job creating Christian. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster and there were times I wish I could go in there and help Christian. How he suffered! specially in the initial asylum scenes. Just reading it clogged my throat with tears, because my mind kept going back to the time when he was in his prime, basking in the success of his mathematical equation, being charming and intelligent and so confident and I couldn't help comparing. His plight was great indeed, thank God for Maddygirl [as Christian fondly called her] Having said that, Maddy still annoyed me a lot. I know she was portrayed as a strong, independant young woman but her sense of priority was so messed up. I hated her hesitations and her habit of doing things half way and not comitting out of her fear and beliefs. She hurt Christian too many times, even though she loved him and he was so in love, so in need of her. Sometimes I wished Maddy could hear what he prayed and thought in his head. Half of the time she was oblivious to how much he needed her support and affection. Christian's family was another shocker! I can't imagine the pain and suffering of someone who's lost their sense of speech and coherent thought and basically their whole life but has to deal with the nastiness and heartlessness of his very own flesh and blood. I only liked his Aunt with her no nonsense attitude. It was all made good in the end because she did come to her senses. Though I would've liked that too happen a lot sooner, their moment of shared bliss and utter contentment was too little for me. Nevertheless, I loved reading their wonderful story and was really sad to see it come to an end.
