A terrific book. I enjoyed the interplay between Skyla (living a boring, routine existence); her mother-in-law (suffering from a severe case of empty nest syndrome); and her friend and neighbor Roxanne (a baby-making machine whose life is the polar opposite of Skyla's.) Can't wait to see this book made into a movie!
What I really enjoyed about this book was how well the author captured that gray area that occurs in an early sexual encounter, when you don't understand how something so shameful and wrong-feeling could also make you feel good and loved. I also liked how the author created the family dynamics, especially the relationship between Deanna and her father. This was an engaging book. I kept reading to find out what happened with the characters and liked the glimpse inside the life of a teenage girl.
