The storline is very interesting and educsational. I've already srarted the second in the series, The Janus Stone. Highly recommended.

One of my UCLA English profs is friends with Dan Brown. She said that he knew full well that America reads at a 14-year-old level and that's the standard he aimed for with The Da Vinci Code. That's not sarcasm or cynicism; Dan Brown is just ruthlessly efficient at giving the masses exactly what they hunger for. I admire his strategy and execution; it's obvious from the success of the book that he nailed America's reading habits right on. But I refuse to read material that has been sensationalized and simplified for under-achieving adults. Appealing to over-achieving children (ala Harry Potter) is to be applauded but talking down to adults is just shameful. Not shameful for Dan Brown, but shameful that America as a whole so readily embraced the condescension.
