Too bloody long, and even if it was edited down by 50% (which it should have been) it would still be a bit of a mess. Any good points (and there were some) were nullified by the sheer length and lack of editing, which just became more annoying as time went on. Very obviously written with an eye on the movie optioning.
A friend introduced me to Welch and told me he was a brilliant writer. I struggled through this novel waiting to see something new or even interesting. Ultimately Denton Welch turned out to be a whiny bitch with nothing to say. Is that harsh? God, I feel like he murdered me a little through this novel.
