This is an enlightening peek into a world I know little about - Judaism, specifically the life of American Jews during and following WWII. I read it off and on over a year, in between other books - it wasn't riveting, but it was interesting enough for me to keep coming back to it. The last 100 pages were especially relevant to my current interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as it shows the tumult and dissension within the Jewish faith itself over the formation of Israel; I had no idea it was so contentious even among Jews - at least at one time.
