i like when people bitch about the hype of this book and whether or not it met their expectations. i read it when it came out in like 1997, before hype, and before hype and expectations could shade my young, impressionable mind. that being said, i loved it when i read it. it was probably the first book i read voluntarily, and the fact that i connected to it at 12 as strongly as i probably would now (if i ignore all the talk of hype and other bs) speaks highly of it. i also am totally endeared by older academics, but that's another story. you've clearly already read this book, so i don't know why you're reading this review...or why im writing it...
