Lame. Fluff.
This story centers around the game of "foot-the-ball" in Ankh Morpork. on Discworld. It's not American football, but more like the British soccer. Thrown in are sub-topics of fashion-modeling, street bullies, professional competitiveness, and pride in food preparation. That may seem like odd combinations, but Discworld and Terry Pratchett's writings always have at least one unexpected element. We see a little more of the character of Lord Vetinari that has ever been revealed before in previous books. William de Worde, editor of the newspaper and main character of the novel "The Truth" makes an appearance as does Commander Vimes of the Watch, although they are in it only briefly towards the end. It has been a common thread, I have noted, that Discworld stories address prejudices - particularly those of the racial and religious nature. This story does so, too, but brings in yet another way of thinking about it. I'm still loving Terry Pratchett's books - his humor, his insight, and his creative plots.
