I read the first book of the Bastion Club and I could say that I wasn't impressed at all by the book. Unlike Devil's Bride it was beautifully written and very surprising...Considering this is one of the very first few books Miss Laurens has published or maybe the earliest! I enjoyed the story from the beginning to the end where the characters undoubtedly were very attractive and never failed to satisfy the readers. The hero, Sylvester who prefers to be called as Devil is superficially the most alpha male I've ever encountered when it comes to reading a book with regency themes in it. Possessive, protective, domineering but sexy and hot to the core undoubtedly left little for me to complain. Not to forget Honoria, our lovely heroine has a very stiff spine and a very tough woman. Never like those chatty, prim misses who would swoon at the slightest things. Nope...This one has her own mind and stance although she did give up her idea of venturing in Africa to marry Devil. But I would call her an idiot if she didn't! Without hestitating much, I will give a 5 stars for the book. It was indeed a wonderful and nevertheless a book which leaves you breathless throughout the whole book. And not to forget the steamy, possessive love scenes.

I know a lot of people who have great taste in books loved this, but I really, actively disliked it. What can I say? Maybe it's because I had the Griffin and Sabine books burned in my brain as a teen and this was along the same lines but not nearly as creative and interesting as those? I know I'm in the minority, but both my younger sisters had the same vehement reaction. The first half was interesting, well written, and engaging enough to pull me along, but the ending actually made me throw the book. Well, at least it got a strong reaction!
