I just think Eddie Vedder would like this book.

I can never forget my introduction to Science Fiction by a close fried, R.K.Viswanath. I think it was 1969 and it was the year he got me introduced to SciFi through John Wyndham.

This was, literally, a sweet little read. Sure, everything dovetails together oh-so-novel-neatly, but that's ok. The funny, wry commentary of a 14-year old girl who is truly cool but feels awkward & self-conscious. Which is a good description of most 14-year old girls in the U-S-of-A, natch.

Ever since I picked up Relic I fell in love with Pendergast and I've been a devoted follower of Preston & Child. Pendergast's 11th book doesn't disappoint...I can't wait until #12 comes out so I can find out what happens next!

A- Wow. This really fantastic literary novel is the story of Grania, shortly after she becomes deaf after having scarlet fever. The story of her life as she learns from her family and as she attends a school for the deaf is told; she eventually falls in love with a hearing man, Jim, who goes off to WWII, and much of the latter part of the book is told through Jim's POV, often through letters he never sends Grania. The writing is excellent, the plot moves along at a wonderful pace, and it's hard to put down. Especially interesting are the dynamics between the deaf, inc. oral vs. hand. Really fascinating; highly recommended.

This entire book is formatted as an interview and was compiled from several interviews Putin has conducted over the years. The content vascillates wildly from the banal to the bizarre, and one ends up with the impression that Putin was simply the "socialist boy next door," and it's anyone's guess how this relatively modest figure has found himself wielding such an immense amount of political power as the president of Russia. Refreshingly candid and a pleasure to read.
