I read this senior year of high school. I remember loving the story and finding it empowering by the end. One of the strongest things from this text for me was Celie's description of her femininity. This was probably one of the few books I read in school dealing with sex and it is one of the first books I can remember reading and discussing that dealt with gender and race issues.
