This book kicks SO MUCH ASS, man. I've found so many authors whose work I want to look up due to this anthology and I can't wait to start on them. It was exactly what I wanted in a lit compilation. What also adds to the brilliance is the introduction by the two editors at the start of each story. Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier, the coeditors, snark and jocky their way through each intro, each of them making the case for which paranormal entity is best. The give-and-take is fantastic and the friendship and humor between the two co-editors is evident and hilarious. Each and every story has a distinct energy and power and there is something for every possible facet of the genre. Rainbow farting unicorns, zombie kids, dystopian societies, medieval zombie/unicorn dramas, and my personal favorite, gay teen zombie love, are only a few of the fascinating takes on the theme. I can't recommend this anthology enough. It is AWESOME. Off to find me some new teen lit!
I've never been much of a fan of any of Herbert's work outside of the Dune series. I thought this would be a good book--the idea behind it is great. But it just didn't do much for me.
