My father read several of the books in this series to my siblings and me. I particularly remember this title because one would think that cat ate an actual danish, like a pastry, but it turns out to be a Danish chair with a modern design. We liked these books as a family because they had cats in them (which we kids and my mom liked) and mysteries (which my dad liked). They were also not really adult mysteries, so they weren't easy to solve, but they were clean and appropriate for older children.
The first essay in this book is called, "My Father's Brain." It's an essay about Alzheimer's and the author's father's battle with this awful disease. For, (not so) obvious reasons I have not made it past the first five pages. Maybe I should start with the last essay and work my way back.
