This is the first modern mad scientist novel, which set the stage for so many mad scientist tales of the next 200 years. You've got the lab full of bubbly stuff, experiments with lightning, stolen body parts, humans brought back from the dead, monsters, and a man who wants to play god. Just try to name a mad science story that doesn't have a little Frankenstein in it. This book changed your life already by creating an entire subgenre of science fiction devoted to science run amok.

This book is really called The Other Hand. Little Bee is just the US title. Don't let the pretentious cover blurb put you off. It's beautifully written but the ending is ambiguous; we have to assume that Little Bee survives as she narrates part of the story but how is not clear.

I have often had conversations with my daughter whining about how I wished Patricia Briggs would write 2-3 books a year. She always reminds me that if Briggs did this, the books would not be a good. Briggs is slow, methodical, precise and exceptional in her ability to write amazing stories and River Marked is no exception. I find I want to slow down my reading to savor every word; yet, find myself speeding through the text just to find out what will happen next. After their wedding, Adam and Mercy embark upon their camping honeymoon. Due to Adam's security business, he is able to get them a spot in an exclusive area void of other visitors. The Deluxe trailer they were provided with was loan to Adam by the fae. You know what happens when a fae wants to helpful! Trouble always ensues. I do not want to give up too many details; so, I will just say that Mercy must once again step to to the plate to battle monsters and bad guys. She does it with her usual zest and zeal. She is a force to behold. I truly enjoyed the tender moments between Mercy and Adam. Some have criticize that the love scenes were not hot and heavy. However, some authors go too far and not leave enough to the imagination. Their love has evolved over the series and bond just keeps getting stronger. Yes, Steven is back and I was glad to see Briggs include Charles and Anna at the wedding even if it was only briefly. We get a look a Mercy's heritage and family dynamic as well. I am sure we will have greater insight in future installments. I for one just love this series.
