I got this book because I really liked "Northern Lights", but I was disappointed. First, the book is LONG. Not that a long book is an immediate turn-off, but I'm 65 pages into the story and nothing is happening. Second, the murder descriptions are overly gruesome. Finally, why do authors go to cheap titillating sexual descriptions so often? It is possible to describe love - even sexual love - without becoming pornographic. Between the murder and sex descriptions, the author seems incapable of descriptions that aren't base. I waited all school year for time this summer to read. I'm not going to waste my time.
