This is a decent girls' middle reader level book. It deals with the typical awkward junior high best friend drama, but it's not over the top. No prepubescent romance, thank goodness. Just a good clean story about a girl who discovers that she's a mermaid one day. Aspen's wanting to read it, so I decided to check it out first. I'll be happy to let her read it, and I guess that's saying a lot. :) It was an entertaining, quick read, and the little bits of art interspersed throughout are adorable.
Benjamin Franklin paints a very real picture of himself; both of his virtues and errors in his life. The description of late colonial America politics is quite interesting, especially as he discusses some of the reasons for the war of independence. I should have also stated that I truly enjoyed this book and Franklin's view of the world. The only reason to give it a lower rating is it does trail off at the end, long before the revolutionary war. I would have enjoyed reading about his activities in Paris - it's probably time to dig up a biography.
