Even thought the main character was a little flat, and much of the dialog was uninspired, especially the lack of dialect, I thought this book was an excellent choice for my teenage students. The author does not shy away from tough issues like teen pregnancy, abortion, father/daughter relationships, and teenage sexuality. It is also inspiring to have an array of highly intelligent African American main characters who fit the profil of so many of my students.
What I found most interesting about this book was that it was a small glimpse into what autism looks like, and I think the author does a great job of really creating a unique voice. The narrator/main character is interesting and the style is different, but I felt that it lost steam about 3/4 of the way through and didn't end strongly.
