This book is well-written, provocative, and interesting. That being said, I don't know if "joy" is the right word to use. Ehrenreich talks a lot about groups of people gathering together and celebrating, but it seemed to me that only some of these gatherings were joyful. Most she discussed were religious, and some were just groups of people supporting a common cause (sports games, Nazi speeches). I didn't find a lot of "joy" -- as I understand the word -- in her discussions of group enthusiasm, but I still found the material fascinating.
