The day before is a beautiful story that inextricably connects the lives of Cade and Amber, two teens who feel lost and or stuck in life. The love they have kind of reminded me of a YA version of One Day by David Nichols. These two characters really hit home for me. I love their personalities and the little things they do that make them so adorable :). WHen reading Lisa Schroeder's books there are certain songs that come up, whether its the song the main character is listening to at a certain time or in any other situtaion, make a playlist of those songs and keep adding on as you read. Listening to those songs while reading transported me to their world and helped be connect with the charcters on a deeper emotional level.
I got this book at a second hand store while I was going through a Chinese history kick. Boy am I glad I picked it up. It's a window into the lives of three incredible women of different generations, growing up and living in China. I could not put it down. It's incredibly sad, but also uplifting at the same time. I would recommend this to all my friends, if any of them had a desire to read non fiction!
This second part of Maus is just as brilliant as the first. Both the story and the characters become even more developed and they captivated me until the very end. As terrible as the Holocaust was, the fact that its history had been constantly drilled into my head since elementary school practically desensitized the actual tragedy of so many deaths, so I especially appreciate this graphic novel for creatively recalling the shock and horror, as well as the compassion involved.
