I liked Mcall-Smith's writing in Portuguese Irregular Verbs. It was hilarious. I was expecting the same sort of humor in this series. It wasn't as quick and pungent. The plot moved slowly which fits well with the setting. It has interesting characters and indeed is more driven by their relationships than by the storyline, also fitting well with the setting's culture. It also has a great last line. I listened to an audio production of it which was quite decent, if a bit dull at times.
