Tempest Rising was not what I was expecting in the least. It was not a cutesy mermaid novel but a vivid one. The main character's emotions were often raw, with plenty emotion. It was very, very good, I don't know what it is about mermaid books, but many of them don't capture the underwater setting well. Tempest Rising was very descriptive and it felt like you were looking out on the sea floor. It was beautifully written. Tempest was a strong, dynamic character. She made the book enjoyable. The author did a fantastic job sculpting her and I'm looking forward to reading more from this debut author.
