I liked this very much, though in parts it was slow and bogged down with too much repetitive detail. The story itself is engrossing, and reveals the dark tendency people have toward self-deception when it comes to evaluating ones own motives (often seeing them as selfless when they are really very selfish). Orual's ultimate salvation comes when she sees herself in the light the gods view her, self-seeking and sinful, and is humbled. A nice picture of true Christian repentance that comes when one sees his/her depravity in the light of God's holiness. I read this with my church book club. My husband hadn't read this yet either, so we read it aloud together in the evenings after the kids are in bed. This was fine, but Lewis's habit of writing complex parenthetical sentences often made it difficult to follow as listener.
