I really liked this story. Perhaps because it's about family; I've spent considerable time wondering about, and asking after, my own family, so I can understand some of Vlad's feelings during his quest to learn more about his mother's people. The pain he suffers and the anger he experiences were very real. Brust is at his best again, here. "There is nothing worse than a smartass who pretends not to understand hyperbole."
