A nice sequel, brings a lot of questions about the mind demons. Arlen's a good character, improving physically as much as psychically but still the author could add a little more than "I'm friends with a woman let's marry". It's a little slow paced and Arlen has an attitude of "devil may care", a little, which stands oddly with someone who proffesses to care for his fellow creatures, compared to other "I've been christened in hell, and I've come to save yer hides" characters. That, like I've said, is comparatively speaking. Unlike the other aforementioned you can actually get a taste of what he experiences, on and on, and he's actually not the lost son of an extrapowerful/skilled god/king/witch/wizard/Messenger. This is one of the books that might as well be talking about the revolutions that actually took place: Some peasant started thinking "... there so much more I could do with this pitchfork..."

Don't assume that you'll only enjoy this book if you're already part of "the choir." If for no other reason, read this book to understand how much the physical and commercial landscape of our country has changed over the last fifty years. Then you can decide how you feel about it ...

Look, I'm biased. A dear friend was one of the co-authors of this book, and there's a big old picture of me on the first page and deep inside the book. But sentiment aside, this is a great compilation of all the strangeness that Ohio has to offer. Whether you're into spooky tales, UFOs, cryptozoology (Bigfoot, etc.), roadside attractions, or other wacky things, this book likely has it. It's pretty beautiful to boot--not flimsy or disposable, this is hardcover and packed with color photos. Perhaps your family plans daytrips differently, but this has provided a nice "to-do" list for our free time.
