As opined by reviewers everywhere, this novel is in the style of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca. Lots of foreshadowing, potentially supernatural elements, a special house, a secretive boyfriend, a first wife... The story is a solid addition to the genre, if a bit scattered at times. Maybe it's just me, but I tired of the "if only I'd thought to ask..." and "what did I really know about..." and "yes, it was strange that none of his family came to visit..."
