** spoiler alert ** 5 starts for the first half, 3 stars for the second half. It was like two different books in one. I was on the edge of my seat for the first half of the book. Once Alex arrived in Rule, things took a turn for the boring. Not only that, she did a bit of a 180 personality-wise. I liked the strong-willed Alex in the first half of the book better. I still can't believe she didn't bust out of there to go find Tom and Ellie. I expect there will be resolution there later. I will admit that I hadn't guessed the ending, but it does make sense. I hope we will find out what actually happened to the world (rather than speculation from various folks) in the next books.
