Technically, I'm not done with this book. It's a lot to take in. I like it when I get back into reading it. There are certain paragraphs that are mindblowingly beautiful.
I thought I would really enjoy this book - I grabbed it off the shelve b/c I had read a review on a Mommy Blog. The title and the concept struck me b/c many of my friends hopped of the career track once they had children - these were women who were highly successful in all of their endeavors and chose to stay home with their children. I found some of the characters to be very "real" but some not so real. Some of the story lines felt real but some felt very fabricated and not so possible in real life. It was a quick easy read and helpful to know that regardless of whatever choice a woman makes re. her career after children (if she has one) that there will always be thoughts about what the other or another scenario might be like.
All I can say is WOW. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. It was a little slow at times and some of it was difficult to get through, but all in all, it was a great story about a very strong young woman. A book for all ages. Also one of my first 19th century british lit books!
Yawn - then a bang! The first few chapters of this book are presented as a mundane suburban-fam-does-a-remodel but then it bursts into this unexpected tale of travel, adventure, adultery, lustful luncheons, culinary canoodling. You're so swept up with the fun that you have to wonder, does this book end? And will it suck?
Very insightful for parents of kids who may have add or sensory integration disorder or both.
