I always seem to find just the right thing to read during dark or bitter times of my life, and this book took the prize. I was amazed at some of the moral underlying themes throughout this book, but the greatest being that of trust and friendship. Anyone struggling to understand what true friendship is, could stand to read this book. That aside, the storyline was gripping. It takes a while to really get into it because so much is left vague or without explanation in the beginning, but I soon found that I could understand everything that was happening in this world. The "good vs evil" story in here is classic, but with a realistic twist. You still have the all-powerful evil that rules and reigns over all, and the conquering underdog, but elements of inadequacy, fear, feeling overwhelmed are strong. I grow tired of stories where the protagonist wins just because he/she gets lucky. A warning to some, however: Sanderson is a tragedy writer. I loved this about the book. It was this singular thing that made me enjoy this book as much as I did. For other tragedy fans out there, I give this 4 1/2 stars. The reason I only gave 3 is because while enjoyable, I don't know if I can accurately judge based on personal life events at the time. I was, however, disappointed with some ending elements...I was hoping for something different. But most other people should be pleased with it.
