This book did not make me happy, but it did influence the way that I define hapiness.
Being about 12 when I read it, I could definitely relate to the young protagonist even if I wasn't a fraction as tough as he was. A truly frightening opening scene. I remember reading this while awaiting my turn for an oral exam in english, and being impatient to figure out the ending to the novel.
So this is about a prostitute who enjoys long walks on the beach, quiet dinners, and eating asshole. She decides to change her name to Lena when she becomes a prostitute.... WTF! Verbal lobotomy.
