This book has a fairly depressing slant to it. But it brings up a lot of really good points about friendships, relationships, and maturing. This was a very emotional read for me. Alice Sebold's first novel - her memoir. The first chapter is a very graphic description of her being raped. If and when you get through that, what follows is a captivating and psychologically intriguing story of her dealing with issues caused by the rape. I question her sincerity and her residing, sometimes sugar-coated, bitterness of herself as a hero.
