it was un peu better than part 1 and 2.
I had only seen the movie based on the play - not the play itself - and I had never read the book before. The book is a bit plodding on its own. I think the music of the play/movie add to the story tremendously since the whole story revolves around the opera house and music. There is obviously more detail possible in the book, but the play/movie tell the story faithfully with only a few minor changes.
