I read a handful of other reviews before sitting down to write this so I'll start with two points other people brought up. 1) I like the cover. It's not what you'd think from a first glance - no new tentacled demon, but it seems accurate having read the book. And, no I wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen reading a book with that cover in public. Make people wonder. It's good to be mysterious. *g* 2) There is a cliffhanger, but it's not a "leave the main plot hanging" cliffhanger. The murder mystery case is solved by the end of the book. It's the secondary plot thread that's left on an OMG note. It reminds me of the way one of the "True Blood" seasons ended. The season's plot was wrapped up then there was a preview of what comes next. I don't feel dissatisfied with the ending, but it does make me yearn for the next book. So I'd say it's "just enough" of a cliffhanger, but not "too much". Okay, back to the book. I guess you'd actually say there were three plot threads weaving through the book. The main thread being a series of strange deaths with victims that were all people who wronged Kara in the past. The secondary thread - someone is trying to summon Kara. And the third thread - pondering the mystery that is Ryan. Like all good continuing urban fantasy series, you get forward progress on the background threads, and you get a fully realized foreground thread. Good read all around.

Three stars because the plot of this book fit well with what I like to read about. Reasonably well-written. Terrible title and cover (Arsenal Pulp Press, what were you thinking?).
