This was an overall enjoyable, laugh-out-loud funny read. I don't think it was consistent all the way through. The early, "unknown" years in the life of Jesus came across more interesting than when the author put his own spin on the story we all know. It's interesting how in recent years writers and filmmakers have shifted to making Jesus a more human and understandable character, stressing the humanity rather than the divinity. This book fits really well in that tradition. For some reason, I spent the whole book picturing Biff as played by Jeff Anderson from the Kevin Smith movies -- something about the know-it-all outrageous quippery. As much as you can only take this book so seriously, there are touching moments that make you really hope that Joshua did have a good (smart-alecy) friend to help teach him patience.

Overall an interesting book. Not quite a book that stops you from putting it down, but still manages to be easy to pick up and read without being tiring. The concept behind the book is a very good one and overall it is well written but personally I felt that the pace of the book was far too fast and the story could have been told in a slightly more subtle way letting the reader do some of the work. Far too many answers are just given to the reader with no effort required on the readers part. To conclude though the book does do a good job of enticing emotion in the reader and is most certainly a book that should be read at least once and have on the bookshelf, but not one to be read again and again.
