I don't have anything deep to say about this series: they were just books that I read and loved and reread and loved, and then read again, and loved, when I was a kid.
One piece of artwork "A Matter of Trust" by Maria Castagliola arranged ordinary paper envelopes into traditional quilt patterns. Family and friends placed their deeply personal secrets inside which she sewed shut. Sugar Children by Vik Muniz used granulated sugar on black paper to create portraits of children of sugar cane workers in the Caribbean. After photographing the images the paper is wiped clen. He symbolically erases history and replaces it with new images suggesting that life and work on the plantations is cyclical, inter generational and unending.
