I think people really shouldn't write this genre of novel (allegorical spiritual journey, bleh). I read this book because it was recommended by a good friend, and it had been selected as the annual town reading-group book for her town. It turned out to be a fairly enjoyable read, but I still think it's disingenuous to write a book like this and call it a novel.
