Well-written, Snuff is classic Palahniuk but somehow less satisfying than his other books. The gross-out factor is to be expected, but in this case it simply leaves you feeling disconnected from the characters.
Could easily be a five upon re-reading. Brilliant use of space, color, line, etc. At times it felt like some of the ideas presented in some of the more abstract moments were supposed to feel new or shocking; maybe if I had not encountered these ideas already in aesthetics classes those sections would have worked better for me? Who knows (hence the re-read to come). A very nice and complex cast, and often any flaws in design can be explained by considering the narrative point of view. No regrets buying this book before reading.
