Total crack-up. This book just kills me.
I'd probably only give this 3 stars if it weren't for the fact that I love Richelle Mead. And I have no doubts whatsoever that this series is headed in a great direction, but, man, did this one take some time to become interesting... This spinoff of Vampire Academy centers on Sydney, the Alchemist. Still in a bit of trouble from helping Rose in Last Sacrifice, she has a new assignment and is hoping to redeem herself with the Alchemists. Her new assignment is to help protect Jill, half sister to Lissa, the new queen. After an attempt is made on Jill's life, she's removed to Palm Springs and enrolled in a private boarding school under an alias, along with Sydney and Eddie (the guardian) as her "siblings." Thankfully, we also have Adrian nearby to provide entertainment. No, seriously, Adrian IS the entertainment. The overall storyline was a little weak, but Adrian saved the day. I admit to being a fan of his in the other books, as well, but I don't remember laughing as much at his snarky comments. Cannot wait for more of him! But Jill, Eddie and Sydney? Personalities for them are lacking, and we only get a smidgen of personality from Sydney at the end of this one - thus, my confidence that things ARE headed in a good direction. It will get better...I know it will.
