Not nearly as well-plotted or compelling as The Monstrumologist, the first in the series. Took a long time to get into the book--2nd half picked up quite a bit, but lots of loose ends left. Violence and descriptions of violence felt much more gratuitous than in the first title. I'm apparently in the minority since most gave it 4-5 stars; perhaps the sinus infection I had while reading kept me from being engaged.
