I'm going to do this review as if I'm on Reading Rainbow starring that black dude from Star Trek. Have you ever come across someone who was so in love with himself that it qualified as gay i.e. homosexual? The Picture of Dorian Gray has that with its eponymous character (Dorian Gray). Dorian starts off as a rather whiny effeminate "man child" who undergoes a drastic transformation toward a seemingly immortal deviant "man child" void of societal morals and ethics. Normally a poet, Oscar Wilde weaves an intricate plot with the main character and the moronic people he comes across in his travails. Don't get me wrong, they're interesting too. Moving along, this book was also interesting from a different perspective. The novel had subtle homoerotic undertones, if you catch my drift as it were. People had suspected Oscar Wilde as being such so this was his "coming out party". This probably scared the delicate Victorian society of England whose people likely did not deem this behaviour as "appropriate". I find this funny for some reason. This lifestyle exposure was done in the same way as actress Amanda Bearse in the critically acclaimed television programme Married...with Children when she played her own character's lesbian cousin. In conclusion, the book is pretty good. Check it out at a library today! I would give this book four-and-a-half or even five stars, but I wouldn't want the author to get a big head. Yes, I know he's dead.
