I first read this book in elementary school and heave reread it since then at least a dozen times, and I would still consider it among some of the best fiction I've read. Though clearly writing for children, Spinelli addresses themes that many other children's authors ignore completely or oversimplify (e.g. homelessness, death, racism). The characters also have a depth and likeability absent from much other fiction for those age levels, and I think I'll continue to read this novel every few years for a long time.

Excellent series of books, Volumes I, II, III. Joyce and Dennis Ashton evidently were friends with Clyde and Kris when they lived in Washington. Joyce is a nurse and certified bereavement advisor. Dennis is an LCSW. They both teach at BYU Education Week. I strongly recommend all three volumes. Very good.

Wow. This book was written at the height of the housing bubble. As such, many of its assertions are downright laughable. For example, the author claims anyone can (and should) get a home loan, even if you have bad credit and no money for a down payment. Also, the author reasons that the average income of homeowners is greater than that of renters; therefore, if you want a higher income, buy a home. Are you kidding me!?! Correlation is not causation. Certainly there were a few good principles in this book (which are outlined in it's parent the Automatic Millionaire), but many of the assertions and assumptions were so ridiculous, I must recommend not reading this book. Disclosure: I must admit I did not completely finish the book; it was just too painful.
