The job of Chalice is to bind the land together with whatever she can. The job of Master is to rule the land as well as bind it. I think. Robin McKinley never really explained either of these things fully. She just started talking about Chalice and Master and how things were unusual for these particular two as compared to other previous Chalices' and Masters'. I stick by my thought that this book would have REALLY struggled with any other name than Robin McKinley written on the cover. I liked it, but I don't think I will really remember it that much or read it again.
Another great reference book!
